Abandoned in a park with only her younger brother, Kisandra floats through life wishing for things to change, until a man mysteriously appears in her living room. He tells her he's a sorcerer and even more astonishing, that she comes from another world. Taking a literal leap of faith, she and her brother find themselves in a world where their every whim and desire is fulfilled. Still, not everything is perfect in her new home and when the tragic happens, Kisandra must face her fears, grow up, and become the woman she always wished she could be.

This was an interesting book. I pretty much read it in a day, only putting it down a couple of times because I was annoyed with the protagonist. I felt very ambivalent about her. Kisandra was sometimes very likable but other times very juvenile and self-centered. When someone she thought she loved annoyed her, she ordered the other woman's immediate death. That was such an immature and selfish reaction that I really disliked the character. Of course, someone plucked from 21st century America is not going to be a bold warrior woman or very brave for that matter, but I think there is a way to make one's characters three-dimensional without making them churlish. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I enjoyed the story. An American young woman and her brother are suddenly transported to another world and discover their real family and that they are royalty. They have some uneasiness over this rapid change, although Tenis adapts much more easily than Kisandra does. Kisandra's need for self-determination leads her into several dangerous incidents from which you'd think she'd learn, but she has to go through even more before she wises up. She has to endure a quest to regain her throne and rescue her country, and during the process she begins to think about changes she can make and she also begins to care more for the people around her. It was a fun adventure to read and I appreciated her finally maturing.
There are some errors that were distracting, like "deluding" instead of "diluting." An editor would have caught a lot of the verb errors as well. But in general, the book was well written and I will read more by E.A. Starkey

I want a sequel to this please. I felt sad for Bremis would like to see her ending differently. Maybe in a sequel she can come to the queen,s rescue.
